My version of ZOMBIE - The Cranberries

This article aims to describe the setup I used to record my own version of Zombie. The result is not perfect, of course, and I was more interrested to the method of recording song than final quality.

Hardware Setup:
I use the following chain to record the sound: Guitare -> Boss NS2 Noise Supressor -> Boss Octave OC-3 -> Amp -> Instrument Micro (Shure SM57) -> PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL -> MacBookPro -> Logoc Pro X -> PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL (output) -> KRK Rokits5 or Bose QuietComfort® 15.

Boss Octave OC-3 is used to simulate the bass track. I have to admit that it's working pretty well.

For the instruments, I use an OVATION 1867AX-5 LEGEND for the clean sound and an ESP Snakebyte for the saturated part.
Setup for the OVATION equalizer are: [Low:0, Mid:+25%, Hi:-10%]

Setup for the ESP Snakebyte -> use the EMG humbuckers 60 in the neck.

The amp: Lanay TF300
Clean channel: [Bass:4, Mid:5, Treble:5, Reverb:5, Volume:3]
Saturated channel 1: [Drive:4, Volume:3, Enhance:3, Bass:9, Mid:6, Tremble:9, Reverb:3]

The instrument microphone is centered to the amp and spaced 5cm.
Software Setup:
I'm using Apple Logic Pro X software to record and arrange the sound track. For this title, I've baught the drums backing track that I've injected into the software. The clean, saturated and bass guitare tracks are recorded through the above explained setup.

Main challanges:
- Find the correct setup for my amp, and the location of the mic to record the output sound.
- Avoid to be overloaded by the output sound of the amp. For this, I used a Bose QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones. It's really cutting the sound generated by the amp, and allows to ear clearly the backing track comming from Logic Pro X.

and now the sound track:

Mini home studio (starter kit)

I've started setting up my mini home studio.

I’m using GarageBand to record and play with the different sound tracks.

To record sound coming from my amp, I’m using a SM57 Instrument Microphone. This is a multi-purpose mic for clean sound reproduction of amplified or acoustic instruments.

The audio interface to my Mac is a PRESONUS AUDIOBOX 22VSL with a USB connection.

Finally, the monitoring is done through 2x KRK RP5 ROKIT G3.
